GlobalTop Technology, the Taiwanese leader in GPS module technologies, now offers a comprehensive Assisted GPS and Magnetic Variation solution for use in consumer and professional GPS applications. The announcement for these two GPS supporting technologies is a major step for system designers to integrate a faster, more accurate GPS solution into their GPS related system design. Assisted GPS, or AGPS, is a well known method of accelerating GPS start-up time by preloading estimated satellite orbital and ephemeris information into the GPS module. This not only cuts down the annoying start-up time by as much as a third of the original, it also saves significant battery power wasted in the startup process. However, what’s different from the offering of others is in the ways of implementation. With GlobalTop Technology, the entire development kit, including the necessary software for uploading protocol and AGPS server establishment, is provided at once in a neat package. "In addition, you’ll have the full support of GlobalTop technology from our technical personnel,” explained by Nelson Yang, the Deputy Manager for GlobalTop Technology, “as well as the necessary customization designed specifically for your need.” The other major advancement is the inclusion of magnetic variation solution into GloblaTop’s GPS module lineup. Magnetic variation, or magnetic declination, is the angel difference between magnetic north and true geographic north. Because of the degree of magnetic variation varies by location and passage of time, plus the calculation for position and orientation is mostly dependant on the ever-changing magnetic north, it becomes a de facto necessity for the professionals in the marine, aviation, and military fields to know where the true geographical north lies. By request, GlobalTop GPS modules can be uploaded with special firmware that enables output NMEA code to support this feature.
